For those who don't fly (and I know quite a few) this is the only way to travel to the UK. Living in Kerry, this used to be the most conveinient to visit the UK by car. A hearty meal, a good kip and your there by morn.

I fully support the efforts to recommence this service to
benefit the Welsh and Irish economies and local tourist trade
and to further improve the friendship between people in
our two great Celtic nations.

It was a sad day when the service ended in 2006 and I feel that the
efforts to find a new ship should have commenced much sooner.
It's seems totally crazy, letting an established business, cease
operations only to start a new after nearly 4 years!

It's going be be hard work re establishing the service and
especially in the current economic climate. It's a good and quite
sensible to delay this until the 1st March 2010.

I do believe that the service will re establish itself and will be
successfull for many years to come but I'm concerned about the age of the Ferry!

Best Wishes,

Jim Maggs.

Desperate for the service to be restored so we can visit my son and his family who live near Cork without expensive hotels to and from as the journey is otherwise too long and my husband doesn't fly, but we could bring our motorhome over to Ireland and take long breaks - and would do this regularly if the service was restored. Keep at it - you are much needed.

I have two small boys and have been taking them to Courtmacsherry for the last 3 years. The first year I took the boys I was booked on the Swansea Cork Ferry but there was a bad crash on the M4 and we missed it. They gave me a voucher for another journey and then promptly sold the boat!

Its a fantastic place to take kids and we really love it there but each year I say I won't go back because its such a long journey for us. You really need to go for 2 weeks to recover from the grueling journey.

I really hoped the ferry would be back this year - it would make life so much easier.

Have 2 small children age 4 and 1....try to visit their great uncle on bere Island each year but horrendous journey as we have to go either from Holyhead - Dublin or Fishguard--Rosslare. This means total of 10 hours + actual car time ( counting both sides )with the only rest being a 3 hour boat journey.
Swansea to Cork ferry would mean we would only have 6 hours car time but 10 jours rest time !! Fabulous and ideal for holidayers visiting relatives on the S/W coast line....can't wait for the new service...hurray !

I love this ferry service and miss it a lot. I go to Cork every year and with 2 children the ferry and car is a great way to travel for the summer break. The Swansea-Cork ferry that is. Going from Pembroke to Rosslare is a long drive for us all. I am both sorry and delighted to hear that the Swansea-Cork ferry service will be back in 2010. Sorry that it's not 2009!! Looks like a Pembroke-Rosslare drive again this year!!! Thank you to all involved in the campaign. I will be sailing with you in 2010.

Having just endured the journey to west Cork via Rosslare I have come to the conclusion that Moses had it easy leading the Israelites out of Egypt. He never had to go back the same way!

I have been travelling to see my family in Ireland since I was 11 yrs old by ferry. The fact that I now have to fly means I can only afford 1 trip or less per year and I am struggling to keep up with all the new family additions. I would also like to introduce more family and friends to glorious Killarney, but we can't afford to get there! You really need to take your car to see it all properly as the hire cars really bump up the cost of the trip. I am delighted to see the ferry may be resuming next yearn - please God!. Sarah 34yrs

I have friends in Cork, Myrtleville and Dublin, the lack of ferry service from Swansea as it used to be results in less frequent visits to friends in Ireland. It just seems stupid that links to south wales in this day and age are being put back decades and depriving both south wales and southern ireland of much loved (and needed) tourism. This is effecting the small business earner more than anyone else....i.e the people that really matter!

It's apalling that this ferry has not run since 2006, we have a property in South West Cork and now have to get the Pembroke/Rosslare ferry to visit - a long drive on both sides.
What's wrong with the Irish Government and the Tourist Board, do they want tourism? Clearly not or they wouldn't be expecting we, the people, to set up campaigns and make donations, to reinstate something as fundamental as the Swansea/Cork ferry.

So sad the ferry wont be running now till March 2010 but quite understand the reasoning. Thanks to all who have worked so hard to bring back the swansea cork ferry.
We go to West Cork about 5 times a year & dont fly as we have the dog and lots of bits to take to our house near Bantry. Oh dear - we're going to have to summon up the courage to do that ghastly drive to Pembroke and then on from Rosslare again at the end of May! It is so tiring it takes about 2 days to recover! However the prospect of eventually going via Swansea to Cork will keep us going this year!! Good luck with all the plans and we'll be on the first boat over!

West Cork businesses, holiday makers, farmers and B&Bs all have suffered from the loss of the ferry; the journey to the west of ireland via Rosslare makes what is an easy journey via Swansea-Cork into a sometimes two day hike. So many livelihoods, and the Irish economy need the ferry, its essential it is brought back as soon as possible.

Im disappointed that the Swansea /Cork Ferry wont be back for Summer 2009 service.

I love Kerry but the prospect of taking the Fishguard Roslare crossing to access Kerry is just not one I am willing to do again. I will reconsider Ireland for my holiday in 2010 if/when the Swansea /Cork crossing is back.

If Im changing my holiday plans how many others will pass up the Ring of Kerry as a holiday destination.

WIth people holidaying close to home with the credit crunch Ireland is going to miss out on a valuable tourism opportunity.

I'm a native of the Cork Harbour area and as a graduate engineer I have recently moved to the UK. I usually travel home by air via Aer Arann to Cork or the various Ryanair connections to Shannon or Dublin but the travel costs are usally quite high. I do sometimes take the car and make a trip from Pembroke or Fishguard, but the time spent driving takes it's toll and makes only long holidays home worth it.
The re-introduction of the Cork/Swansea link is an exciting prospect for me even for those short breaks. The simplicity of driving to Swansea down the M4, hopping on the ferry with or without the car and being landed 20 or so minutes from Cork city is a no brainer. It is worth noting that it is a popular point of discussion of other munster people I have met who reside here in Bristol, students and professionals alike.
